Co-op Support Rumbletums

Ever since Kimberley’s new Co-op opened they have been busy promoting local causes and supporting the community. Rumbletums was delighted to be picked as one of their local causes to benefit from the Co-op Community Foundation. 1% of all Co-op branded groceries was donated between 3 local causes which came to a fantastic £2,500 for us. Thanks so much to Co-op and all those dedicated shoppers! We will be using their grant to help make Rumbletums a great Café experience so look out for some improvements and refurbs in the coming months. Happy Days!

Support our cause!

Good news you can help fund our cause and even better… it’s simple and easy to do!

This year very luckily we have been chosen by both Co-op and Tesco’s to potentially receive some funding.

BUT… we need your help if you shop at Local Co-op Maws Lane Branch or Tesco’s Extra in Ilkeston.

Here’s how to help if you shop at Tesco’s Ilkeston:

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to local community projects.

Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

Rumbletums is one of the groups on the shortlist.

Voting is open in stores throughout May and June. Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop.

Here’s how to help if you shop at Co-op Maws Lane:

The latest round of Co-op Local Community Fund is now open, which means that our members can choose to give 1% of what they spend on Co-op branded products and services to your cause.

The funding for your cause will come from Co-op Members. We give 1% of everything our members spend on Co-op branded products and services to a local cause they choose – and they’ll be able to choose your cause from 9 April to 7 October 2017.

Every time our members buy Co‑op branded products and services, from buying a loaf of bread to planning a funeral, 1% of their spend goes to a local cause, like yours. For the 6 months you’re part of the fund the money builds up. Throughout the 6 months, members can choose which cause their contribution goes to.

Please head to the Co-op at Maws Lane to sign up to the Membership and start fundraising for us today!

Ending the year on a high!

What a year it has been for Rumbletums! We kick started the year with a piece on BBC East Midlands today and have ended it on receiving an award from The Houses of Parliament for the most Inspirational Community Group.  Words can’t describe how proud we are to receive such an award.

So here comes the thank yous. First of all a big thank you to Anna Soubry who has always supported Rumbletums and put our name forward for the award. Secondly thank you to the amazing board of Trustees who first conceived the idea of Rumbletums and still continue to nurture the project and make it what it is today. A HUGE thank you to our fantastic staff and volunteer team whom each and every single day offer their time, skills, kindness and the understanding of what our young people need. .  We of course need to mention our brilliant customers who support the cafe and everything that the project stands for.

But… Lastly and most importantly a huge thank you to our fantastic group of trainees whom on a daily basis show dedication, willingness but what impress us the most is the utter determination to learn new life and work skills whatever their ability.

Let’s see what 2017 has to offer!

Rumbletums 5th Birthday

We celebrated our 5th birthday on the 2nd of July 2016.

It was the opportunity for faces old and new to celebrate the success of what Rumbletums has achieved over the last five years and to thank everybody for their support over the years, staff, trustees, volunteers, customers and of course our fabulous trainees!

It was a great turn out and customers enjoyed a slice of our delicious birthday cake.

As we were so busy we didn’t have the chance to take many photos, but see a few below.

Finally here’s to many more years serving the community and empowering our young people.

Toilet Twinning

Our next little venture… Toilet Twinning!

(Information below from http://www.toilettwinning.org/)

‘Here’s the thing… 2.4 billion people don’t have somewhere safe, clean and hygienic to go to the loo. That’s more than a third of the people on the planet.

We decided that was bang out of order…

So we invented Toilet Twinning. Now, you can get excited about life-changing long-drops!

By twinning your toilet, you help those in desperate poverty to have access to a proper latrine, clean water and the information they need to be healthy.’

Rumbletums has decided it’s time to twin our loo’s too! So if you feel like spending a penny with us, watch our for a donation pot in the toilet to help us raise money to twin our toilets!

Rumbletums Job Club

As part of the service we already run for our young people with learning difficulties at the end of March we are hoping to launch our new project, The Rumbletums Job Club. This is something we are very excited about and has been kindly funded by the Broxtowe Health Partnership Lifestyle Fund 2016/16 for resources such as laptops and workbooks.
During 2016 and hopefully further into the future, Rumbletums will be working alongside trainees and helping to prepare them for future employment or volunteering opportunities to coincide with the work based training that we offer. It is of importance that the trainees take the skills Rumbletums has given them and think about how they can apply them to other working organisations.
We begin out first Job Club session at the end of March and look forward to seeing our trainees gain more skills and knowledge.
We will be covering the following skills:
  •  Assessing individual trainee needs and areas for support, job preferences, skills
  • Exploring I.T. and C.V building.
  •  Completing the ‘Employability Skills Development’ Workbook which is tailored to the needs of the trainees. The workbook covers team working, customer awareness, communication, health and safety in the workplace and problem solving.
  •  Exploring job opportunities i.e. where they may be advertised, and how to search for jobs online.
  • Exploring the various ways in which to apply for jobs i.e. email, online applications, in writing.

If you would like any further information on this please contact Abbigale Faulkner @ training.rumbletums@gmail.com.

Cafe Refurbishment

It’s important to us here at Rumbletums to ensure that the cafe is always a warm and comfortable area for our customers. Over the Christmas period our fantastic group of trustees have spent some time decorating the cafe  and redesigning the way we display our delicious cakes!

This has been funded through various way- the cafe revenue, family, friends and customer donations.

Most recently we have been chosen to be ‘Charity of the Year’ by local Heanor based company Cullum Detuners LTD. Which from their Christmas Raffle they have raised an amazing £600 for us, which we are extremely grateful for.  Some of this money will be put towards the refurbishment as we still have our foyer area to decorate and for new ventures that Rumbletums will embark on throughout 2016.

So a huge thank you to everybody who has contributed, even if it was just putting your pennies in our famous whale!

Success of Rumbletums Trainees

For many of our Trainees who make use of the project, their end goal when leaving is to continue leading full varied and enriched lives which involves striving for employment or different volunteering opportunities.

We are pleased to announce that two of our Trainees have found their calling in life! Victoria and Jenny have begun on the career ladder and we are absolutely over the moon for them both.

Jenny has begun working at Marks and Spencer’s and Victoria as a Midday Supervisor in primary school environment.

Rumbletums has given them the confidence and a strong foundation for them to take forward with them in all future career prospects. This has been teamed with the sheer determination of Jenny and Victoria and their families all leading to the perfect end result of employment!

We want to wish them the very best of luck (although i’m sure they don’t need it) in their current job roles and for the future.Congratulations__13899.1400903720.1280.1280
